Ten days of Festas da Sé with around 200 participants livening up the streets

The Festas da Sé will liven up the heart of the city of Funchal between the 31st of May and the 9th of June, between Praça do Município and the Cathedral, in a program that features close to 40 performances involving around 200 participants and 22 groups.

The investment in this initiative, which foresees ten days of celebration, is 28 thousand euros.

The event organized by Funchal City Council, which counts on JM as ‘media partner’, was presented this afternoon in the CMF’s Salão Nobre, with the objective being to bring people to the city center in these days that anticipate the first summer parties , boosting local commerce and the cultural universe of the municipality.

The Festas da Sé will run through the main arteries of the city center, namely Rua dos Ferreiros, Rua do Bispo, Rua da Queimada de Cima and Rua da Queimada de Baixo, Rua João Tavira, Largo do Chafariz, also spreading to the Travessa do Forno and Rua do Aljube.

The musical entertainment will be of a rotating nature, covering some of the most historic streets in the city center, and will take place from 5:30 pm on weekdays, and from 1 pm on the two weekends it takes place. .

At the presentation of the program, which was attended by some of the participants involved in this poster, Cristina Pedra, president of Funchal City Council, praised the municipality’s investment in the municipality’s artists, indicating that the city council is committed to “dignifying art” and to “provide conditions” so that workers in this sector “can make art their profession”.

He recalled, on the occasion, that local businesses have benefited from a series of initiatives promoted by the CMF, not only financial contribution instruments but also the promotion of cultural and artistic events that take place throughout the year. Commercial establishments, he highlighted, will take an “active part” in this event, by serving a variety of traditional snacks “as part of a set of artistic moments”.

The mayor also highlighted the number of groups hired for this edition, which increased from 12 in 2022 and 17 in 2023 to 22 in 2024.

The opening of the Festas da Sé takes place this Friday, at 5:30 pm.
