A monk seal was spotted this morning in the waters of Funchal, between the Carlton Hotel and Pontinha.
The arrival of the animal caught the attention of those who were there, who filmed and photographed the moment. According to reports, the animal has been seen swimming in this area for about three days.
In the space of 10 days, this is the second sighting of its kind, since last Saturday, July 10, one was also filmed swimming and eating near Praia dos Reis Magos, in Caniço.
Visits to Madeira Island by monk seals that make up the Desertas Islands colony have become increasingly frequent, and as a result, sightings of these wild animals in Madeiran waters have increased.
