The mentality of the people on this island is digusting, and only naming and shaming people will start to make a difference.
Yesterday, Ajuda a Alimentar Cães reported a case of a dog that, after being adopted a month ago, was chained up again by its new owners.
The association, on its social media, states that the animal, named Ruca, “was adopted less than a month ago and was already living in these conditions”, considering that “it makes no sense to rescue chained animals and then return them to the same conditions”.

The association warns, in the publication, that, when adopting an animal, a term of responsibility is signed by the adopter, which includes rules such as: “being able to exercise adequate care and supervision, committing to provide it with good food and housing conditions, without ever keeping it tied up, chained or living on any type of balcony, thus providing it with adequate and sufficient physical space so that it can exercise; allowing the donor access to the place where the animal is located for any possible verification of its living conditions, as only through post-adoption surveillance can one be certain about its present and future well-being; the adopter expressly accepts the irrevocable loss of custody and ownership of the animal in favor of the donor, if the latter so wishes, even if this is tacitly expressed by referring it for a new adoption, if the latter fails to fulfill one of the commitments made”.
“The rules are clear, simple and obvious. If you can’t comply, don’t come and adopt animals,” concludes Help Feed Dogs.
