The PPM Madeira believes that the “stubbornness” of the Machico City Council in maintaining the torch festival is a “tremendous and enormous lack of responsibility and common sense”, at a time when fires are ravaging several parts of the Region.
“The President of the Machico local authority (Ricardo Franco) seems to be indifferent to this affliction that is affecting Madeira and the Madeirans and prefers to maintain the festivities to entertain the common people”, criticizes the party, through a statement sent to the editorial office.
The PPM also questions the position of the president of the regional Socialist Party on “this stubbornness”, given that this local authority is being presided over by the socialists “who have already shown themselves to be sharp in the way in which the fight against the fires is being conducted”. But now, it claims, “one of your local authorities wants to divert human resources to a party, when everyone is needed in the fight against the fires that are ravaging the Region”.
The PPM believes that, at the very least, this party should be postponed, at least until the fire are extinguished in Madeira.
