The Mixed Firefighters of Ribeira Brava and Ponta do Sol were alerted this afternoon to fight a fire that broke out on the Madalena do Mar escarpment.
The Regional Civil Protection Service helicopter has also been activated, as the flames are consuming brush in an area that is difficult to access, and a team from the Madeira Volunteer Firefighters is also on its way to the scene.
