This has to be one of the Favourite TAP planes, great pilot skills.

  1. These landings look scary but when you are on the plane you barely notice(which is just as well).

Maurice we as I’m sure you have,have been on a few of these and its the word ” barely ” that gives Jane no comfort at all but going round for three attempts before computers kick in and say you’ve had yours go somewhere else is all part of the experience of coming to Madeira,as with many others I’m sure, we love the excitement of it!!!!
    We are hopeful to get a flight home on 27th after nearly a year, but can’t wait to return and certainly won’t be by sea,ship or swimming so airplane it is.

    1. You and I were in the RAF where the landing of any plane is little more than a controlled crash ??

  3. I remember a couple of landings like this one! I also remember the runway before the extensions and the inevitable lift off again when the plane wasn’t going to make it ?
    I’m pretty sure there was an inevitable cheer on this landing from all passengers!

  4. Remember the fact they cant stay up there, but its how they land and where that matters.

    5003 Airfield Construction Maurice,based at RAF Waterbeach Cambs explosive demolished the H Bomb bunkers at American Air base Brize Norton Oxford before it transfered to RAF. ( not many can say went to Cambridge and Oxford!! )Was also on state funeral for Winston Churchill.

    1. Was at Henlow(closed now) on Ground Radio Installation Squadron, HMS Jufair in Bahrain, RAF Greatworth(Defence Communication Network), Wildenrath Germany with the Harrier jump jets and finally 4 floors down below the MOD building (hush hush) ?
