MIGUEL BRITO QUESTIONS THE SILENCE OF THE REGIONAL GOVERNMENT REGARDING THE ENVIRONMENTAL ATTACKS ON THE DUNES OF PORTO SANTO

The PS councilor and deputy in the Legislative Assembly of Madeira wants the Regional Government to explain in detail and as quickly as possible the interventions that have been seen in the island’s dunes, a protected landscape where this type of movement is prohibited.

Miguel Brito refers to several photo and video testimonies collected in recent days where large excavation machines are visible and the marks on the dunes left by them.

“The law is clear with regard to the preservation of the dunes of Porto Santo, and any type of intervention or excavation is not allowed. It is important to know who was responsible, for what reason, if the Regional Government was aware of this very serious attack and what it will do”, says Miguel Brito, considering that the Executive cannot be, on the one hand, congratulating itself on an award for the best beach destination and, then, allowing this type of attack that has nothing to do with preservation and conservation of our most precious asset”.

The PS councilor in the local authority also questions the silence of the mayor of Porto Santo, who he considers “always very solicitous to make claims or criticisms, except when it comes to issues that should be dealt with by himself or by the Regional Government.
