‘Irene’ blew hard and knocked down the structure of the Santo Amaro Festival in Santa Cruz

The rain and strong wind that were felt this evening in Madeira caused some incidents in certain municipalities in the Region.

As previously mentioned by DIÁRIO, one of the most targeted was Santa Cruz. In addition to some falling branches, the strong winds from Depression Irene also shook the tents and even toppled the stage that was set up for the Santo Amaro Festival. Although the party had already ended yesterday, the structures would only be removed today.

“There were three incidents in Santa Cruz. A tree fall and two road cleanings, one of which was essentially related to the strong wind, which ended up damaging some of the structures that were set up as part of the Santo Amaro Festival. “, explained Marco Lobato, Operational Commander of Madeira.

According to data from the Santa Cruz Meteorological Station, the maximum gust occurred at six in the morning, with an intensity of 126 km/h. Despite the visible damage left, there is no record of any injuries.
