The strong wind warning for the seafront issued by the captaincy of the Port of Funchal at the beginning of the week was extended until 06:00 on Saturday, the regional maritime authority reported today.
This situation is based on forecasts from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere.
The regional maritime authority thus extends the wind warning for the coastline for the sixth consecutive day.
In the information, the captaincy points out that the wind will be from the northeast “very fresh to strong, decreasing to fresh to very fresh from the afternoon onwards, becoming moderate to fresh at the end of the period”, with visibility “good, sometimes moderate ” and waves of up to 3.5 meters on the north coast and 1.5 meters on the south.
The captaincy reinforces the recommendations for “the entire maritime community and the population in general to take care, both when preparing to go to sea, and when they are at sea or in coastal areas”.
Reinforcing the mooring and monitoring of moored and anchored vessels, avoiding walks near the sea or in areas exposed to sea agitation, not practicing recreational fishing, especially near cliffs and cliff areas frequently affected by breaking waves are the indications given by the regional authority.
