“Children must be vaccinated before school starts”

The regional secretary of Health again considered “unacceptable” and “inadmissible” everything that happened since the first week of vaccination of children against covid-19. “Parents must be aware that the vaccination of children is an act of protection at a time when their public health is at risk”, stressed Pedro Ramos.

The government official spoke this morning on the sidelines of the signing of a protocol with the Portuguese Red Cross.

At the time, he said he was hopeful for the coming weeks, since yesterday he had a “completely different” signal with the children of Calheta. “We made 300 vaccines just yesterday in the Region, at Tecnopolo, Ribeira Brava and Calheta”, he indicated. Pedro Ramos stated that “children must be vaccinated before school starts”.

Pedro Ramos also stated that children are “a reservoir of diseases, they transmit disease, especially for themselves”, and vaccination prevents complications.

Let’s hope the parents are a bit more sensible and really think twice about what this man is talking about, just to boost the government’s ego, and show they can keep doing better, I think this is wrong.

I know people with symptoms that can’t even get through on the phone number, and have been told you really have to insist on a PCR Test as they are so full they can’t cope, and this is from the health care.

  1. It is obvious that Ramos is very poorly informed. Children are not in danger nevertheless their parents are pressured into vaccination.The secretary should step down. Officials like him are never held accountable for their decisions, at least they think so.

    1. Yes, damaging children for good with this vaccine that is not even tested properly and that children doesnt need.

  4. In a way Julio is right, generally children aren’t badly effected by this virus unless they have an associated medical issue. The vaccination does reduce potential transmission by around 50% so viewed from a community point of view this is an advantage we do vaccinate for other diseases in this way like in the case of measles especially to protect pregnant women. This is however a vaccine with a lot of data behind it. People are justified to be nervous if not scared about such a new treatment.
    The tone from the Government official has hardened and helped to entrench peoples feelings on what is a very sensitive subject. Clearly it is the decision of the parents to do what they think is right for their family after taking the views of both sides of the argument without being pressured from either camp.
    Should he resign? Realistically not. Should he be a bit more understanding of others views? Yes!

    1. In all they have all done a great job. But now they are trying the fear factor to get more people vaccinated. We as Madeira are 86% fully vaccinated, they wanted to get to 85%. This adults not vaccinated are not going to change their minds now, and soon this covid will be just something we all walk around with like cold and flu. The other week he blamed the night club bars, for the out breaks, and saying they are failing with no use of mask ect, who would go to a club or a bar and wear a mask… Nobody, so just another of his stupid comments. He want to do better and better and now it’s turning against him, and nothing will stop omicron from spreading whatever you try to do.

  6. Good evening everyone, firstly I would like to point out that the translation into English from the original Portuguese report made the statement sound worse. In English the word “must” was not quite the exact translation of what Ramos said. However, the tone of the threat is totally uncalled for. I just read a report from Germany that stated “not a single healthy child between 5 & 11 has died from covid. Maybe Mr Ramos could furnish us all with the scientific data that suggests children are “a reservoir of diseases”. I look forward to reading that report. In the meantime I would suggest that parents read the following if they want to make an informed decision:

    1. What risk is “covid” to me & my age group?
    2. How long have you been trained to administer an injection?
    3. Are the vaccines safe?
    4. Are the vaccines effective?
    5. Are these vaccines currently in a trial?
    6. Do the vaccines stop “infection” and “transmission”?
    7. What are the list of injuries related so far to these jabs?
    8. How many people have been injured or died from the jab.
    9. What are the ingredients in this jab?
    10. Where is the product insert with all the placebo and safety study information?
    11. What level immunity is stronger and longer lasting, natural or vaccine induced?

    Once you have this information you can then make your decision.

  7. Parents should be worried about their child’s weight and metabolic health more than anything. Healthy children have almost no risk from this disease. Unfortunately, I see more and more overweight children and parents feeding their children ridiculous portions of McDonald’s, KFC and other junk. Go back to a healthy diet (and no, a meal at McDonald’s isn’t cheaper than apples and chicken you’ve bought at the supermarket and prepared yourself) and children will be fine. Come to think of it, if many of these people got their own diets in order and stopped being so sedentary, they’d probably be at lower risk of complications if they got ill.

  8. More than 75,000 children ages 0-17 have been hospitalized with Covid-19 since August 2020. While this age group makes up the lowest number of Covid-19 hospitalizations of all age groups, hospitalizations in this population are rapidly increasing.
    The CDC reports that 1,035 children up to and including age 17 have died from Covid-19. From CNN Health so probably just US stats.

    2. Dr Anne we had 17 children sent home from my Primary School because they were showing symptoms leading up to the last week before the Festive break.
      Some of the children were from the same household.
      Fourteen families notified the school informing positive results with other family members.
      We have four surrounding schools who also had many households deemed positive.
      An ex pupil age 12 suffered from long covid for months he had no underlying health issues.
      We have to abide by strict rules regarding the children set up by the Education department.
      Vaccination of children should be decided by the parents as what the feel is best for their children.
      We have the flu vaccine administered every October in our schools but it is the parents who
      decide, a few opt out because of beliefs or other reasons and that is their choice.
      No vaccines are enforced.
