VERY HIGH RISK OF EXPOSURE TO UV RADIATION IN MADEIRA

The IPMA placed the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Leiria and Lisbon, the archipelago of Madeira and the Azores at very high risk of exposure to UV radiation, with the exception of the island of Flores (Western group), which is with high levels.

For regions with very high risk, the IPMA recommends the use of sunglasses with UV filter, hat, ‘t-shirt’, parasol, sunscreen and to avoid exposing children to the sun.

At an even higher level are twelve districts in mainland Portugal, which today present an extreme risk of exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, namely Vila Real, Bragança, Viseu, Guarda, Coimbra, Castelo Branco, Santarém, Portalegre, Setúbal, Évora, Beja and Faro.

For these districts with extreme risk, the IPMA recommends avoiding exposure to the sun as much as possible.

The calculation is made based on the values observed at 13:00 each day regarding air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and amount of precipitation in the last 24 hours.
