A dolphin was discovered this morning stranded near the Pestana Carlton Madeira hotel.
The adult male dolphin, of the common species ( Delphinus delphis) , was found without signs of life, by hotel staff, who alerted the Madeira Whale Museum, which promptly mobilized to the location to collect the animal’s corpse. marine.
“Unfortunately, when the animal was found by the hotel staff, it was already dead. It was in the water and we went there to collect it”, said Luís Freitas, biologist and scientific director of the Madeira Whale Museum.
The institution will now begin procedures to understand the circumstances of the dolphin’s death, as well as to collect information for the study of the species here in Madeira.
